With the weather depart ment forecasting more rain in Chennai, Brindaa Lakshmi, a Ko ramangala resident, decided to bring her physically-challenged uncle from the rain-ravaged city to Bengaluru. But convincing him to leave the city he called home was not easy , she said.Brindaa, who works in a startup, was in Chennai on vacation when the city got flooded. On Thursday last, water entered her uncle's ground floor house in T Nagar and they were stranded for over 10 hours. She posted her ordeal on Facebook. The post was shared by a friends and subsequently noticed by a US-based individual who informed two boys in T Nagar. The two youngsters arrived and walked them to a four-storey building a stone's throw away . Once the water receded, Brindaa and her uncle took a taxi to Bengaluru on Sunday.Like Brindaa's uncle, several people have left Chennai to make Bengaluru their home till the situation improves. One such family is of Catherine Taylor, who will be joining the British High Commission in Chennai early next year. To get acclimatized to Chennai before joining work, she, her husband Sheen and their one-year-old son arrived three weeks ago and moved into a house in Thuraipakkam on Old Mahabalipuram Road.
“We tried to find a way to Bengaluru where Sheen's family lives, but couldn't find anything. Eventually after it got dark, we got in contact with a British couple, who sent their car for us,“ she said.Meanwhile, many Bengalureans who are worried about their friends and relatives in Chennai plan to bring them here. Like Susan (name changed on request) who is concerned about her ageing in-laws. “We were able to get through to them only yesterday(Sunday). One of the first things we suggested was that we would pick them up this week, but they say that the water is receding from streets,“ she said. Susan is thinking of going to Chennai this week to bring her in-laws to Bengaluru.
